Huntingdon falters against Birmingham-Southern

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to Birmingham-Southern on Wednesday.

Huntingdon fell 7-1 in Game 1 and lost 5-0 in Game 2. The Lady Hawks (3-5) fell behind early in Game 1, allowing five runs in the first three innings. In the second game, the two teams battled to a scoreless tie through five innings before Birmingham-Southern (4-2) scored five runs in the sixth inning.

Sophomore Jesse Dunn provided Huntingdon's only run with a solo home run in the sixth inning of Game 1. Left fielder Ashley Johnson had two hits in the first game and was the only Hawk with multiple hits in either game. Johnson also had two stolen bases in the first game.

Senior Katy Messick (2-2) took the loss in three innings. Freshman Lindsey Selph pitched the final four innings of Game 1. Selph (0-1) took the loss in Game 2, pitching 5 1/3 innings. She carried a one-hitter into the fifth inning and a three-hitter into the sixth inning before the Panthers got on the scoreboard.

Selph, Tiffany Taylor and Jamie Langford accounted for Huntingdon's three hits in Game 2.

Huntingdon opens USA South play on Saturday with a doubleheader at William Peace. Game 1 is set for noon.
