Lady Hawks come up short against LaGrange

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team lost both games of a doubleheader with LaGrange on Thursday. Huntingdon fell 5-0 in Game 1 and lost 4-3 in Game 2.

With the losses, Huntingdon (16-13, 11-8 USA South) drops to fifth in the conference standings and LaGrange (18-10, 13-7 USA South) moves into a tie for third.

The Lady Hawks have two conference doubleheaders remaining before the USA South Tournament. Huntingdon plays at ninth-place North Carolina Wesleyan (14-14, 10-10 USA South) on Saturday and at eighth-place Methodist (17-17, 11-9 USA South) on Sunday.

In Game 1 on Thursday, LaGrange scored two runs in the first inning, two runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth. Huntingdon finished with three hits in the game as Daisha Henderson, Tiffany Taylor and Jamie Langford each had a single.

Katy Messick (9-6) took the loss in Game 1 and Lindsey Selph (4-4) took the loss in Game 2.

In Game 2, Huntingdon built a 3-0 lead in the first five innings. Henderson scored on a sacrifice fly by Heather McGuirk in the first inning. In the fifth inning, Chelsea Messer scored on a single by Langford and Felicia Peoples scored on a LaGrange error.

LaGrange answered with three runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game and took the lead in the top of the seventh.
