Lady Hawks come up short against Dallas and Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. – The Huntingdon softball team came up short in two games on Sunday at Millsaps College.

The Lady Hawks lost to the University of Dallas 6-5 in eight innings before falling to Millsaps by the same score, 6-5, in a regular seven-inning game.

Huntingdon (2-6) carried a 4-2 lead into the sixth inning against Dallas (2-3), but gave up two runs in the bottom of the sixth as Dallas tied the game.

After a scoreless seventh inning, Huntingdon took a 5-4 lead in the top of the eighth when Brandi Blair scored on a sacrifice fly by Daisha Henderson. In the bottom of the eighth, with the bases loaded, Dallas ended the game with a two-run double.

Chelsea Messer led Huntingdon with three hits and a run in the game and Jamie Langford had two hits, an RBI and a run. Blair had an RBI and a run, Henderson, Jessica Swindle and Lindsey Selph each had an RBI and Blake Rowland and Jesse Dunn each had a run.

Raina Lanier (0-4) took the loss against Dallas and Kerri Reed (1-2) took the loss against Millsaps.

Against the Majors (6-2), Huntingdon led 5-3 after four innings and carried a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. Millsaps tied the game on a passed ball and ended the game with an RBI single.

Reed had three hits and scored a run for the Lady Hawks and Henderson had two hits and a run. Blair drove in two runs with a double in the fourth inning and Messer scored Huntingdon's first run on an error in the first inning.

Rowland had an RBI and a run, Swindle had an RBI and Langford scored one run.

Huntingdon returns to action with a doubleheader at Wesleyan on Thursday. Game 1 is set for 1 p.m.
