MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team pushed its winning streak to four games with a sweep of Agnes Scott on Sunday.
The Lady Hawks (6-6) rallied from a one-run deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning to win the first game 15-10. Huntingdon won the second game 8-0 in five innings.
Senior Chelsea Messer, freshman Katrina Harden and junior Daisha Henderson combined for 13 hits in the two games. Messer was 5-for-6 with four RBIs, two runs and three stolen bases. Harden was 4-for-5 with four runs and an RBI and Henderson was 4-for-7 with three runs, an RBI and two stolen bases.
Kala Rooney scored four runs and had an RBI in the two games, Blake Rowland had four RBIs and Brandi Blair and Jamie Langford each scored three runs and had an RBI.
In Game 1, Huntingdon led 9-4 after five innings. Agnes Scott (1-9) scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 10-9 lead. But the Lady Hawks answered with six runs in the bottom of the sixth to regain control.
Felicia Peoples scored on a wild pitch to tie the game and Harden scored on a wild pitch to give Huntingdon an 11-10 lead. Henderson added an RBI single before an Agnes Scott error allowed two more runs to score. An RBI single by Lauren Bosch closed the scoring.
Relief pitcher Kerri Reed struck out two, walked one and forced a pop out to end the game. Starter Raina Lanier (2-4) earned the win in six innings.
Messer was 4-for-4 with four RBIs and a run in Game 1 and Henderson was 4-for-4 with three runs and an RBI. Harden was 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, Rooney was 2-for-2 with three runs and Jessica Swindle was 2-for-3.
Rowland had four RBIs and two runs, Langford scored two runs, Bosch had one RBI and Peoples and Jesse Dunn each scored one run.
Reed (2-2) pitched a five-inning shutout for the win in Game 2. Reed struck out two, walked two and allowed six hits. She was also 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Blair was 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI and Harden was 2-for-3 with two runs. Langford drove in two runs and scored one run, Rooney had an RBI and a run and Messer scored one run.
Huntingdon opens conference play on Wednesday with a doubleheader at LaGrange. Game 1 is set for 2 p.m.
