Lady Hawks split with Maryville in conference doubleheader

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team earned a split with Maryville College on Saturday in a conference doubleheader.

The Lady Hawks took the first game 11-4 before falling 10-3 in Game 2. The loss in Game 2 snapped a seven-game winning streak for Huntingdon (9-7, 3-1 USA South).

Four Lady Hawks combined for 16 hits, 10 RBIs and eight runs in the doubleheader. Lindsey Selph was 3-for-5 with two home runs, five RBIs and two runs, Jessica Swindle was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and a run, Daisha Henderson was 5-for-8 with two RBIs and two runs and Katrina Harden was 4-for-6 with three runs.

Selph helped set the tone in Game 1 with a three-run home run in the second inning and a solo home run in the sixth inning. Selph finished the first game 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs.

In between the two home runs, Henderson had an RBI triple in the second inning and an RBI single in the fourth inning. Henderson was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run in Game 1.

Leading 6-4 after Selph's solo home run, Huntingdon put the game away with five more runs in the sixth inning. Blake Rowland drove in two runs and Swindle drove in two runs to make it 10-4 before Brandi Blair drove in the Lady Hawks' final run.

Swindle was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run in the first game and Harden was 3-for-3 with three runs. In addition to her two RBIs, Rowland also scored one run. Blair scored a run to go with her RBI and Chelsea Messer and Raina Lanier each scored one run.

Lanier (4-4) picked up the win in 4 1/3 innings. Kerri Reed pitched the final 2 2/3 innings.

In Game 2, Huntingdon trailed 4-3 in the fifth inning before Maryville (9-9, 5-3 USA South) pulled away with five runs in the fifth inning and one run in the seventh inning.

Selph (3-1) took the loss in 1 1/3 innings of relief. Henderson was 3-for-4 with a run and Swindle was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Selph had an RBI and Blair and Messer each scored one run.

Huntingdon travels to Birmingham-Southern for a doubleheader on Thursday. Game 1 is set for 3 p.m.
