Huntingdon falls at No. 22 Birmingham-Southern

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to 22nd-ranked Birmingham-Southern on Thursday.

The Lady Hawks fell 3-0 in Game 1 and lost 7-2 in Game 2.

Huntingdon (9-9) gave up two runs in the second inning and one run in the fourth inning in the first game. In the second game, tied 2-2 in the sixth inning, Birmingham-Southern (16-4) scored five runs to pull away.

In her first appearance on the mound this season, Jessica Swindle earned the start for Huntingdon in Game 2. Swindle struck out one, walked four, hit one batter, gave up three hits and allowed one earned run and one unearned run in five innings. Kerri Reed (2-3) took the loss in relief.

Swindle also had a hand in both of Huntingdon's runs. Trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning, Swindle doubled to score Blake Rowland. Swindle then scored to give the Lady Hawks a 2-1 lead.

Brandi Blair was the only Lady Hawk with multiple hits in either game, going 2-for-3 in Game 2.

In Game 1, Swindle, Chelsea Messer and Kala Rooney accounted for Huntingdon's three hits. Raina Lanier (4-5) gave up two hits in the loss. Lanier finished with two strikeouts, eight walks and one hit batter and allowed two earned runs and one unearned run in six innings.

Huntingdon will host Meredith in a doubleheader on Saturday. Game 1 is set for noon.
