Huntingdon falls in doubleheader with Mount St. Joseph

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team fell to Mount St. Joseph 6-3 and 12-5 on Friday.

Juniors Lindsey Selph and Raina Lanier accounted for all six of Huntingdon's RBIs in the doubleheader. Selph had four RBIs, including a three-run home run and an RBI triple in Game 2. Lanier had a two-run double in Game 1.

Selph and freshman Maggie Porter each finished the day 3-for-7.

In Game 1, the Lady Hawks (0-4) gave up six unearned runs as Mount St. Joseph (2-0) built a 6-1 lead. Lanier scored Huntingdon's first run on an error in the fifth inning before driving in Porter and Brandi Blair in the sixth inning.

Lanier (0-2) took the loss in Game 1, striking out five, walking three and scattering eight hits.

In Game 2, Huntingdon rallied from a 9-1 deficit and pulled within four runs in the fifth inning before the Lions added three runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Selph's triple gave Huntingdon a 1-0 lead in the first inning. After falling behind 9-1, freshman MacKenzie Smelley scored in the fourth inning and Selph's three-run homer made it 9-5 in the fifth inning.

Porter and Smelley each finished the second game with two hits and a run. Blair and Amber Wade each scored one run.

Starter Alex Teague (0-2) took the loss in 1 2/3 innings. Selph pitched four innings of relief, striking out six, walking two and allowing six hits and three runs.

Huntingdon returns to action at home on Sunday with a doubleheader against seventh-ranked Texas Lutheran. Game 1 is set for noon.
