Lady Hawks fall to Birmingham-Southern

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team lost to Birmingham-Southern 4-0 and 9-1 on Wednesday.

In Game 1, the Panthers (11-8) scored the game's first run in the top of the third inning and scored twice in the fifth and once in the seventh.

Catcher Kelsie Dardon recorded two of the Lady Hawks' three hits. Madison Hunt (3-1) took the loss in Game 1 and had five strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

In Game 2, the Lady Hawks (6-16) battled Birmingham-Southern to a 1-1 tie until the fifth inning, when the Panthers scored three runs. Birmingham-Southern added five runs in the sixth.  

Dardon scored Huntingdon's lone run in the bottom of the second after an errant throw by the Birmingham-Southern catcher.

MacKenzie Smelley had two of Huntingdon's three hits in the second game. Haley Riddle (0-1) took the loss in Game 2 in 5 1/3 inning pitched.

Huntingdon hosts USA South opponent Averett University on Saturday for a doubleheader. Game 1 is scheduled for noon.
