Huntingdon wins Game 2 of doubleheader with Greensboro

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Freshman Samara Miller drove in four runs on Sunday, including the game-winning run in Game 2 of a doubleheader with Greensboro College.

Miller drove in Amber Wade in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Lady Hawks a 4-3 win. Greensboro won the first game 8-3.

With two wins against Averett on Saturday and a split with Greensboro on Sunday, Huntingdon (9-17, 8-4 USA South) is tied for third in the West Division of the USA South Athletic Conference.

Miller finished the day 4-for-8 with four RBIs and two runs and was one of two Lady Hawks with four hits. Junior Lindsey Selph was 4-for-6 with two runs.

Huntingdon scored three runs in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead in Game 2. But Greensboro (12-13, 5-7 USA South) answered with two runs in the fifth inning and one in the sixth inning to tie the game.

In the bottom of the seventh with one out, Wade doubled and then scored on a double by Miller.

Wade finished Game 2 with an RBI and a run on a 2-for-3 performance. Miller was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Maggie Porter was 2-for 3. Selph, Jesse Dunn and Raina Lanier each scored one run.

Freshman Madison hunt (5-1) pitched her fifth complete game of the season for the win. Hunt struck out three, walked none, scattered seven hits and allowed two earned runs.

In Game 1, Huntingdon fell behind 6-0 in the fourth inning before rallying to make it a 6-3 game in the sixth inning. But Huntingdon could not complete the comeback.

Miller was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run in Game 1 and Selph was 3-for-4 with a run. MacKenzie Smelley was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Brandi Blair was 2-for-4 with a run and Haley Riddle was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Lanier (2-9) took the loss in 3 1/3 innings.

Huntingdon returns to action in a doubleheader at home on Thursday against Judson. Game 1 is set for 1 p.m.
