Lady Hawks lose to USA South East Division leader Meredith

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Huntingdon softball team lost both games of a conference doubleheader at Meredith on Saturday, losing 3-2 in Game 1 and 8-0 in five innings in Game 2.

The Avenging Angels (18-12) lead the East Division of the USA South Athletic Conference with an 11-3 conference record. Huntingdon (9-21) is fourth in the Western Division with an 8-6 conference record.

The Lady Hawks battled Meredith to a scoreless tie through four innings in the first game before the Avenging Angels scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Trailing 3-0, Huntingdon answered with two runs in the sixth inning but could not complete the comeback.

In the sixth inning, Huntingdon used an RBI single by Alex Teague to score MacKenzie Smelley and Jesse Dunn scored on an error. Brandi Blair was the only Huntingdon player with multiple hits and finished 2-for-4.

Raina Lanier (2-11) took the loss, striking out eight, walking one, scattering six hits and allowing three earned runs. Madison Hunt (5-3) took the loss in Game 2 in 2 1/3 innings.

Freshman Samara Miller and Dunn accounted for Huntingdon's two hits in the game.

The Lady Hawks play at Methodist on Sunday. Game 1 of the conference doubleheader is set for 10 a.m. (Central).
