Lady Hawks win pair of one-run games in Jimmy John’s Classic

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team closed out its Jimmy John's Classic with a pair of one-run wins on Sunday.

The Lady Hawks scored in the bottom of the seventh inning in both games to beat the University of Dallas 3-2 and Mount St. Joseph 7-6. Amari Fleming scored on an error for the winning run against Dallas and Paige Taylor drew a bases-loaded walk to score Maggie Porter in the win over Mount St. Joseph.

Mount St. Joseph beat Dallas 3-2 in 10 innings in the first game on Sunday.

In Huntingdon's win over Dallas, Huntingdon scored one run in the first inning when Katie Lee reached on an error and Alyssa Singleterry scored. The Lady Hawks tied the game 2-2 in the sixth inning when Claire Tomberlin scored on an RBI single by Madison Perryman.

Down to the last out in the bottom of the seventh, with Fleming on second, Singleterry reached on an error and Fleming scored to end the game.

Carly Cincotta was the only Lady Hawk with multiple hits and finished 2-for-3. Singleterry had Huntingdon's only extra-base hit with a triple in the first inning.

Starting pitcher Lauren Melton went 6 2/3 innings, striking out five, walking six, allowing four hits and two earned runs. Mallory McCarty (1-1) pitched the final 1/3 of the seventh inning to pick up the win.

Against Mount St. Joseph, Huntingdon rallied from a 6-4 deficit in the bottom of the seventh. Singleterry drove in Tomberlin with a triple to make it a one-run game. An RBI single by Rayne Ellis scored Singleterry to tie the game.

Huntingdon loaded the bases with two outs, before Taylor's walk brought in Porter to end the game.

Ellis finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run, Porter was 2-for-3 with two runs and Singleterry was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. Perryman had two RBIs, Lee had an RBI and a run, Taylor had one RBI and Tomberlin scored one run.

Haley Riddle (1-1) earned the win, striking out three and allowing four hits in 4 1/3 scoreless innings.

Coming Up: Huntingdon returns to action on Tuesday in a conference doubleheader at home against LaGrange. Game 1 is set for 4 p.m.
