Huntingdon sweeps Wesleyan in conference doubleheader

MACON, Ga. – The Huntingdon softball team won a pair of conference games with an 8-0 and 8-6 sweep of Wesleyan on Sunday.

Two days after setting their season-high for hits, the Lady Hawks set a new season-high with 14 hits in Game 2 on Sunday and finished with 26 hits for the day.

Freshmen Caitlyn Caffee and Madison Perryman and junior Rayne Ellis combined for 14 hits, six RBIs and nine runs in the doubleheader. Caffee was 5-for-6 with five RBIs and a run, Ellis was 5-for-8 with three runs and Perryman was 4-for-8 with five runs and an RBI.

Senior pitcher Lindsey Selph (5-6) earned the win in both games. In Game 1, Selph pitched seven scoreless innings, struck out eight, walked one and allowed four hits. In Game 2, she pitched the final 2 1/3 innings, struck out three, walked three, gave up two hits and allowed two earned runs.

Huntingdon took control of Game 1 with four runs in the first three innings and four runs in the final two innings. Amber Wade drove in three runs in the game and Caffee was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run.

Carly Cincotta was 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, McKenzie Ridgway was 2-for-3 with two runs and Alyssa Singleterry was 2-for-4. Perryman scored twice and Maggie Porter had one RBI and one run.

In Game 2, Huntingdon had to rally with three runs in the top of the seventh inning. Trailing 6-5, Perryman drove in Singleterry with an RBI single to tie the game and Ridgway drove in Ellis with a sacrifice fly to give Huntingdon the lead. Caffee drove in Perryman for the final run with an RBI single.

Ellis finished 4-for-4 with three runs in Game 2, Perryman was 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI and Caffee was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Ridgway had two RBIs, Kaci Cochran had one RBI and one run and Singleterry scored once.
