Lady Hawks shut out Brevard in doubleheader

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team swept Brevard College with a pair of shutouts on Saturday.

The Lady Hawks won the first game 8-0 in five innings and capped the day with a 5-0 win.

Pitchers Lindsey Selph and Madison Hunt combined for 12 scoreless innings and allowed just five hits in the two games. In Game 1, Selph (6-8) struck out nine, walked one and allowed two hits in five innings. The senior struck out the first three batters she faced and had five strikeouts in the first two innings.

In Game 2, Hunt (5-4) finished with two strikeouts and only allowed three base runners in seven innings. The sophomore gave up a single in the first, fourth and fifth innings, but otherwise kept Brevard off the bases.

Caitlyn Caffee and Alyssa Singleterry combined for six hits, four RBIs and five runs in the doubleheader. Caffee was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs and Singleterry was 3-for-6 with three runs, an RBI and three stolen bases.

In Game 1, Huntingdon scored five runs in the third inning and three runs in the fourth inning. McKenzie Ridgway had two RBIs and Singleterry had two runs and an RBI. Amber Wade was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run, including an RBI triple.

Caffee and Katie Dewey each had an RBI and a run and Madison Perryman, Amari Fleming and Claire Tomberlin each scored one run. Perryman also had two stolen bases.

In Game 2, Huntingdon scored all five runs in the third inning. A two-run triple by Caffee highlighted the inning. Caffee finished the second game 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.

Singleterry and Rayne Ellis each had two hits, a run and two stolen bases in Game 2. Kaci Cochran had an RBI and a run, Ridgway drove in one run and Perryman scored one run.

Coming Up: Huntingdon hosts Piedmont in a conference doubleheader on Sunday. The first game is set for noon.
