Huntingdon splits with Piedmont in USA South doubleheader

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team split with Piedmont in a conference doubleheader on Sunday.

The Lady Hawks lost the first game 4-3 in nine innings before bouncing back with a 4-3 win of their own in Game 2.

In Game 2, trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning with the bases loaded, freshman Caitlyn Caffee bunted to score Alyssa Singleterry. With the game tied, junior Kaci Cochran singled to drive in Rayne Ellis and end the game.

Ellis finished the game with an RBI and a run and was 3-for-4. Singleterry was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI and Carly Cincotta was 2-for-3 with a run.

Madison Hunt (6-4) was the winning pitcher, allowing two earned runs in seven innings.

In Game 1, Huntingdon carried a 3-1 lead into the seventh inning before Piedmont scored two runs and tied the game. The Lions scored the winning run on an error in the bottom of the ninth.

Lindsey Selph (6-9) took the loss, despite striking out 10 and allowing just one earned run in nine innings. She also walked four and scattered five hits. Selph, who has pitched six complete games this season, is second in the USA South Athletic Conference with 89 strikeouts in 77 2/3 innings this season.

Singleterry had two hits and a run in Game 1 and Katie Dewey had two hits and an RBI. McKenzie Ridgway drove in one run and Ellis and Madison Perryman each scored one run.
