Lady Hawks win Game 2 in doubleheader at Birmingham-Southern

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team bounced back from a Game 1 loss to beat Birmingham-Southern in the second game of a doubleheader on Wednesday.

After falling 8-0 in five innings in Game 1, the Lady Hawks won the second game 2-0.

Tied 0-0 in the top of the fifth inning in Game 2, Alyssa Singleterry drove in McKenzie Ridgway with a two-out single. One batter later, Singleterry scored on an error to give Huntingdon a 2-0 lead.

Birmingham-Southern put runners in scoring position in each of the final three innings, but Huntingdon's defense made the two-run lead stand. The Lady Hawks turned a double play with the bases loaded to end the bottom of the fifth and used a fly out and a ground out to end the sixth inning with a runner on third base. A fly out with a runner on second base ended the game.

Singleterry and Ridgway combined for two of Huntingdon's five hits in Game 2. Singleterry was 2-for-4 and Ridgway was 2-for-3. Madison Hunt (7-4) earned the shutout win, striking out one, walking one and allowing nine hits in seven innings.

Lindsey Selph (6-10) took the loss in three innings in Game 1. Singleterry had Huntingdon's only hit in Game 1.
