Lady Hawks keep season alive with Game 2 win at Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Huntingdon softball team bounced back from a 2-1 loss in Game 1 to beat Piedmont 8-2 in the Game 2 on Friday in the first round of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament.

The two teams will play a deciding Game 3 with the winner advancing to the double elimination portion of the conference tournament in LaGrange, Ga.

Game 3 is set for 1 p.m. (Central) on Saturday at Piedmont. If the weather does not permit the game to be completed on Saturday, it will be moved to Sunday at a time to be announced.

Juniors Alyssa Singleterry and McKenzie Ridgway and freshman Madison Perryman combined for 15 of Huntingdon's 18 hits in the doubleheader. The trio also accounted for six RBIs and six runs in the two games.

Singleterry was 6-for-8 with three runs in the doubleheader, Ridgway was 5-for-8 with four RBIs and two runs and Perryman was 4-for-6 with two RBIs, two doubles and a run.

Sophomore Madison Hunt (11-5) took the loss in six innings in Game 1 and earned the win in 6 1/3 innings in Game 2.

Huntingdon scored one run in the fifth inning and five runs in the sixth inning to take control of Game 2 on Friday. Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Ridgway singled to drive in Singleterry and give Huntingdon the lead.

The Lady Hawks put the game away in the sixth with an RBI by Samara Miller, a two-run single by Ridgway and a two-run double by Kaci Cochran.

Perryman drove in the first two runs of the game with a two-run single in the first inning.

Singleterry was 4-for-4 with two runs in Game 2 and Ridgway was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs. Perryman was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, Cochran had two RBIs and Miller had one RBI. Rayne Ellis scored two runs and Amber Wade scored one run.

In Game 1, Huntingdon took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Ridgway singled to drive in Singleterry. The Lady Hawks ended four of the final six innings with runners in scoring position, but could not generate another run.

Piedmont tied the game in the fourth and took the lead with a solo home run in the fifth inning.

Singleterry, Ridgway and Perryman each had two hits in Game 1.
