Lady Hawks sweep Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. – The Huntingdon softball team took two games from Millsaps on Saturday. The Lady Hawks won the first game 5-2 and won the second game 3-2.

Huntingdon scored five runs in the first two innings of Game 1 and scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning in Game 2.             

Tied 2-2 in the seventh inning of Game 2, Huntingdon took the lead when McKenzie Ridgway singled to drive in Lydia Lewis. Millsaps put runners in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh but the Lady Hawks were able to make the one run lead count.

Alyssa Singleterry had a hand in Huntingdon's first two runs in the final game. Singleterry scored on a wild pitch in the first inning and tripled to drive in Lewis in the third inning.

Singleterry and Lewis each finished with two hits in the game. Madison Hunt (3-0) earned the win in 1 1/3 innings of relief. Hunt also picked up the win in Game 1, striking out four, scattering three hits and allowing two runs in seven innings.

Huntingdon took a 3-0 lead in the first inning of Game 1. MacKenzie Smelley drove in Singleterry and Ridgway with a two-run single and Kaci Cochran drove in Smelley with a double.

The Lady Hawks made it a 5-0 game in the second inning with a two-run single by Ridgway that scored Lewis and Singleterry.

Coming Up: Huntingdon returns to action at home on Feb. 23. The Lady Hawks will play Dallas at 10 a.m. and Mount St. Joseph at 2 p.m.
