Lady Hawks take Game 2 of doubleheader with William Peace

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team lost Game 1 but bounced back with a 10-run win in Game 2 in a doubleheader with William Peace on Saturday.

After falling 6-2 in the first game, Huntingdon won the second game 12-2 in five innings.

Due to the weather forecast for the remainder of the weekend, Saturday's games will be the only games of the weekend. Sunday's doubleheader with Meredith College is canceled.

Senior McKenzie Ridgway and freshman Hannah Vines combined for 10 of Huntingdon's 19 hits in Saturday's doubleheader. Ridgway was 6-for-7 with three RBIs, two runs and a double and Vines was 4-for-4 with two RBIs, a run and two stolen bases.

Through 12 games this season, Ridgway leads the USA South Athletic Conference in hits (21), is tied for second in RBIs (11) and tied for fourth in runs (10).

In the Game 2 victory, Huntingdon (8-4) took control quickly. The Lady Hawks sent nine batters to the plate and scored four runs in the first inning before sending 10 batters to the plate and scoring seven runs in the second inning. Huntingdon added its final run in the third inning.  

Ridgway was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs and Vines was 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Emily Nieuwstraten drove in two runs and scored one and Madison Perryman drove in one run and scored one run. Alyssa Singleterry, Kaci Cochran and Caitlyn Caffee each scored twice and Rayne Ellis and Lydia Lewis each scored once. Lewis had two stolen bases in the game.

Lauren Melton (2-1) earned the win in four innings before Ashley Carroll pitched the final inning. Madison Hunt (5-1) took the loss in Game 1 in seven innings.

In Game 1, Peace scored five runs in the first three innings and took a 6-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning before Huntingdon answered with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Ridgway was 3-for-4 with an RBI in Game 1 and Nieuwstraten and Vines each scored one run.
