Huntingdon takes two from Fontbonne

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader against Fontbonne on Saturday.

The Lady Hawks won the first game 5-3 and capped the day with a 4-3 victory.           

In Game 1, tied 3-3 in the fifth inning, Huntingdon took the lead for good with a two-run triple by McKenzie Ridgway that scored Alyssa Singleterry and Rayne Ellis. In Game 2, tied 3-3 in the fifth inning, Caitlyn Caffee singled to drive in Madison Perryman for the go-ahead run.

Ridgway was 2-for-3 with two RBIs in Game 1 and Hannah Vines was 2-for-3 with a run. Singleterry scored two runs and had two stolen bases, Caffee had one RBI and Ellis and Perryman each scored one run.

Madison Hunt (6-1) pitched a complete game for the win in Game 1. Hunt struck out five, walked one, and gave up nine hits and two earned runs in seven innings. Lauren Melton (3-1) pitched a complete game to get the win in Game 2. Melton struck out six, walked four, scattered five hits and allowed one earned run in seven innings.

Ellis was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run in Game 2, Perryman was 2-for-2 with two runs and a triple and Vines was 2-for-3 with a run. Caffee and MacKenzie Smelley each had one RBI.

Coming Up: Huntingdon returns to action at LaGrange on Tuesday. Game 1 of the doubleheader is set for 4 p.m. (Central).
