Softball falls in doubleheader at Berry

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Huntingdon softball team lost both games of a doubleheader at Berry College on Sunday.

The Lady Hawks lost the first game 11-1 in five innings before losing the second game 6-5.

Tied 1-1 in the second inning of Game 1, Berry took control with five runs in the bottom of the second and added five more runs in the fourth inning. In Game 2, Huntingdon scored two runs in the top of the seventh to make it a one-run game.

Trailing 6-3, with two outs in the top of the seventh, Huntingdon loaded the bases. McKenzie Ridgway drew a bases-loaded walk to score Lydia Lewis and Alyssa Singleterry scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-5.

The comeback fell just short with Huntingdon ending the game with runners on second and third.

Kaci Cochran had two RBIs in the game and Singleterry scored two runs. Rayne Ellis and Lewis each had two hits and a run, Ridgway and Madison Perryman each had one RBI and Annie Nolan scored one run.

Madison Hunt (7-2) took the loss in 5 2/3 innings. Lauren Melton (4-2) took the loss in Game 1. 

In the first game, Singleterry drove in Lewis with a single in the second inning for Huntingdon's run. Singleterry, Ellis and Cochran combined for Huntingdon's three hits in the game.

Coming Up: Huntingdon will host the Mississippi University for Women on Wednesday. Game 1 of the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
