Softball comes up short in doubleheader with Birmingham-Southern

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team lost both games of a doubleheader with Birmingham-Southern on Saturday.

The Lady Hawks fell 4-2 in Game 1 and lost 3-1 in Game 2.

Rayne Ellis, Alyssa Singleterry and Sydney Conville combined for seven of Huntingdon's nine hits in the two games. Ellis was 3-for-6, Singleterry had two hits and a run and Conville had two hits and an RBI.

In Game 1, Huntingdon fell behind 3-0 in the first four innings. The Lady Hawks answered with two runs in the sixth inning to make it a one-run game. Birmingham-Southern added a final run in the seventh inning.

Singleterry was 2-for-4 with a run in the game, Kaci Cochran had an RBI and a run and Ellis was 2-for-3. Lauren Melton (5-4) took the loss in four innings. Mallory McCarty (1-2) took the loss in four innings in Game 2.

Trailing 3-0 in the seventh inning of the second game, Huntingdon made it a two-run game with back-to-back doubles by Cochran and Conville. Conville's double drove in pinch runner Claire Tomberlin for the Lady Hawks' lone run.

Conville was the only Huntingdon player with multiple hits in the game and finished 2-for-3.
