Huntingdon earns third conference sweep of the season

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team swept Wesleyan College in a pair of five-inning games on Wednesday.

The Lady Hawks won the first game 14-0 and capped the day with an 11-2 win in Game 2.

Alyssa Singleterry was 5-for-5 with six runs, five RBIs, two triples, three walks and three stolen bases in the doubleheader. McKenzie Ridgway had five RBIs and two runs and Rayne Ellis and Madison Perryman each had three runs and an RBI.

Huntingdon took control in the second inning of both games. In Game 1, Huntingdon took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and pulled away with seven runs in the second inning. The Lady Hawks added one run in the third inning and four runs in the fourth inning.

In Game 2, Huntingdon scored one run in the first inning and put the game away with eight runs in the second inning. The Lady Hawks added one run in the third inning and one run in the fourth inning to take an 11-0 lead into the fifth inning.

In Game 1, Singleterry was 2-for-2 with four runs, three RBIs and two stolen bases and Ellis was 3-for-4 with two runs and two stolen bases. Ridgway had three RBIs and a run and Perryman had two RBIs and Katie Dewey had an RBI and a run. Annie Nolan had two hits and an RBI and Hannah Vines had two hits and a run and Caitlyn Caffee, Shelby Marsh and Lydia Lewis each scored one run.

Madison Hunt (12-3) earned the win in Game 1, pitching four innings, striking out three, walking two and allowing one hit. Ashley Carroll pitched the final inning, striking out one and walking one.

Mallory McCarty (3-5) picked up the win in Game 2, striking out one, walking two and allowing four hits in four innings. Lauren Melton pitched the final inning, striking out two and allowing three hits and two runs.

Singleterry was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs and Ridgway had two RBIs and a run. Perryman had two hits, an RBI and a run and Ellis and Caffee each had an RBI and a run. MacKenzie Smelley had two runs and Sydney Conville, Marsh and Lewis each scored one run.
