Singleterry set to play in American Softball Association
SATSUMA, Ala. – Former Huntingdon shortstop Alyssa Singleterry is continuing her softball career this summer in the American Softball Association.
The second-year professional softball league's season begins on Friday and is scheduled to run through the end of July. Games will be played at Pat Hicks Softball Field in Satsuma.
Singleterry was the 47th pick in this year's ASBA draft. The ASBA rosters consist of former NCAA and NAIA players, who have graduated or have exhausted their college eligibility.
Players represent all three levels of the NCAA and the NAIA. Along with Division III, the league also features Division I players from the Southeastern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference as well as players from as far away as the University of California-Berkeley, BYU and the University of Pittsburgh.
Singleterry is one of several players listed with ties to in-state schools. In addition to Huntingdon, the University of South Alabama, Jacksonville State University, the University of Montevallo, Faulkner University, the University of West Alabama, the University of Mobile and Coastal Alabama Community College each have players or coaches listed on active ASBA rosters.
A two-time West Division selection in the USA South Athletic Conference, Singleterry batted .394 with 111 hits, 24 extra-base hits, 75 runs, 51 RBIs and 39 stolen bases in her two seasons at Huntingdon. As a senior, she led Huntingdon with a .342 batting average, 53 hits, 39 runs, 10 triples and 21 stolen bases and was second on the team with 30 RBIs. Her 10 triples led Division III.
