Huntingdon splits conference doubleheader with Covenant

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.  – The Huntingdon softball team bounced back from a loss in Game 1 to salvage a split with Covenant in a conference doubleheader on Friday.

The Hawks lost the first game 4-3 before winning the second game 6-1.

Emma Bauer led Huntingdon with five hits, four RBIs, a run and two stolen bases in the doubleheader. Brooke Stefankiewicz, Hannah Vines and Emily Nieuwstraten combined for nine hits, five runs and three RBIs.

In Game 2, tied 1-1 Huntingdon took the lead for good in the third inning with a two-run inside-the-park home run by Bauer. The Hawks added three final runs in the seventh inning.

Bauer finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBIs and run, Stefankiewicz was 3-for-4 with three runs and Nieuwstraten was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a double. Macie Wilson had one RBI and Vines and Nolan each scored one run.   

Elise Maddox (2-4) pitched a complete game to earn the win. Holly Sharp (1-1) took the loss in one inning of relief in Game 1.

In the first game, Huntingdon led 3-2 before Covenant scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead.

Bauer was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases in the game and Vines was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Mollie Singleterry had one RBI and Nolan and Christian Chandler each scored one run.

Coming Up: Huntingdon returns to action in a non-conference doubleheader at Covenant on Saturday. Game 1 is set for 11 a.m. (Central).
