Hawks Sweep Doubleheader Against Hendrix

Montgomery, Ala.-Huntingdon Softball defeated Hendrix, 11-10 and 4-3. The Hawks are now 13-5 overall heading into USA South Conference play. 

Game 1:

Huntingdon defeated Hendrix, 11-10, in 8 innings. 

The Hawks took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Annie Nolan had an RBI double to make it 1-0 followed by a sacrifice fly by Anna Vaughn to make it 2-0. Miranda Treadway had an RBI single to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead.

Hendrix tied the game in the 4th inning with an RBI single, an error by the catcher, and a sacrifice fly. The Warriors took a 4-3 lead in the 5th inning with an RBI double. The Hawks answered back to tie the game at 4 with an RBI double in the bottom of the 5th.

In the top of the 6th, Hendrix took the lead with back to back RBI singles, giving them a 7-4 lead. The Hawks answered back in the bottom of the 6th, adding 5 runs. Annie Nolan's 2 RBI single made it 7-6. Natalie Ritchey walked with the bases loaded to tie the game at 7. Emma Spurlin had an RBI single to make it 8-7. Brooke Stefankiewicz was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give the Hawks a 9-7 lead.

Hendrix hit a game-tying 2-run homerun in the top of the 7th to make it 9-9. An RBI single gave the Warriors a 10-9 lead. In the bottom of the 7th, Miranda Treadway had an RBI single to tie the game at 10. The Hawks held Hendrix in the top of the 8th. In the bottom of the 8th, a sacrifice bunt advanced Annie Nolan to 3rd. Treadway's sacrifice fly won the game for the Hawks, 11-10.

Katelyn Holcombe earned the win, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing 6 runs on 7 hits with 2 strikeouts. The Hawks collected 16 hits, including 2 doubles by Annie Nolan.

Game 2:

Huntingdon defeated Hendrix, 4-3, with a walkoff single. 

Hendrix took a 1-0 lead in the third inning with an RBI single. The Hawks tied the game in the bottom of third with a successful squeeze bunt by Annie Nolan to bring in Brooke Stefankiewicz from third.

Hendrix added 2 runs in the top of the 7th with an RBI single to take a 3-1 lead. The Hawks added a run in the bottom of the 7th to make it 3-2 on an RBI groundout by Lydia Lewis. Emily Nieuwstraten had a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 3.  Anna Vaughn had a walk-off RBI single to win the game, 4-3. 

Crimson Wells earned the win, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing 1 run on 4 hits with 2 strikeouts. The Hawks collected 9 hits total. 

The Hawks are back in action at home on Friday, March 25th, when they open conference play against Brevard in a doubleheader starting at 2:00 PM CST.
