Hawks Sweep Doubleheader against Brevard

Montgomery, Ala.-Huntingdon Softball defeated Brevard in both games, 4-3 and 8-0. The Hawks are now 2-0 to start conference play and 15-5 overall.

Game 1:

The Hawks defeated Brevard, 4-3, in 8 innings. 

Brevard took a 1-0 lead in the 5th inning with an RBI single. In the bottom of the 5th, Hailey Leage's pinch hit sacrifice fly tied the game at 1. 

Natalie Ritchey gave the Hawks a 3-1 lead with a 2-RBI double in the 6th inning. Brevard tied the game in the top of the 7th with a 2-run homerun. 

After holding the Tornados in the top of the 8th, the Hawks scored on a sacrifice bunt by Anna Vaughn that resulted in an error by the first baseman. 

Crimson Wells earned the win, pitching 1.0 innings and allowing no runs on no hits. Katelyn Holecombe started the game and pitched 4.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits with 2 strikeouts. Natalie Ritchey was 2-3 with 2 RBI and 1 run. 

Game 2:

The Hawks defeated Brevard, 8-0. 

In the bottom of the second, Miranda Treadway scored on an error by the catcher to make it 1-0. Annie Nolan's RBI single made it 2-0 in the third inning. Alexis Morris had a bunt single to score Emma Bauer, giving the Hawks a 3-0 lead.

Emily Nieuwstraten's RBI single made it 4-0 in the 5th inning. Annie Nolan hit a 2-run homerun to extend the Hawks lead to 6-0. Bailey Murphy had an RBI double to make it 7-0. Natalie Ritchey had an RBI single to make it 8-0, ending the game in a run rule.

Crimson Wells earned the win, pitching 5.0  innings and allowing no runs on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts. Emily Nieuwstraten was 2-3 with 1 RBI and 1 run. Annie Nolan was 2-3 with 3 RBI and 1 run, including a 2-run homerun. Miranda Treadway was 3-3 with 2 runs.

The Hawks are back in action at home tomorrow, March 26th, when they take on Covenant in a doubleheader starting at 12:00 PM CST.
