Huntingdon track and field has successful weekend in Southern Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's track and field team had ten top-20 finishes in the Southern Invitational at Birmingham-Southern College this weekend.

This was the second outdoor meet and the sixth overall for the first-year Huntingdon program.

In the sprints, Huntingdon's Kyndall Caldwell had two top-20 finishes and Patricia Pickens, Miah Burton and Sheaney Marshall each had one.

Pickens finished 16th in the 100 meters with a time of 13.02 seconds and Caldwell was 17th with a time of 13.03. Lipscomb's Anna Bowers won the race with a time of 12.29. Burton (27th), Tristiana Mays (37th) and Bianca Scott (39th) rounded out the Hawks' performers in the 100 meters.

Caldwell was 11th in the 200 meters with a time of 26.81 seconds and Burton was 20th at 27.60. Jacksonville's India Boyd won the 200 in 25.22 seconds. The Hawks' Pickens (26th), Marshall (29th) and Mays (31st) also ran the 200 meters.

Marshall was 19th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:06.78. Georgia State's Charlesha Lightbourne was first with a time of 56.88 seconds.

In the jumps and field events, Kim Allen was seventh in the shot put and discus. Allen had a throw of 35-01.00 feet in the shot put. Samford's Katelyn Poole won the shot put with a distance of 39-07.25. In the discus, Allen turned in a distance of 121-11. Teammate Sara Beasley was 11th at 103-09. Samford's Shelby Builta won with a distance of 138-06. Huntingdon's Abby Carter was 23rd in the shot put and 21st in the discus and Kierra McClain was 28th in the shot put.

Beasley was 12th in the javelin with a throw of 100-01. Jacksonville's Andrea Hoke won with a throw of 129-10.

Burton was 19th in the long jump with a distance of 14-10.5 inches. Georgia State's Gabrielle Brooks was first with a distance of 18-09.25. Scott was 27th in the long jump.

Courtney Fulmer was 45th in the 1,500 meters and Nadia Arellano was 46th.
