Huntingdon women’s basketball loses at Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team battled Millsaps evenly Sunday afternoon but came away with a 72-66 loss.

The Lady Hawks led 37-35 at the half and continued to battle the Majors throughout the second half. A Sekal Ousley basket gave Huntingdon (1-1) a 65-61 lead with 2:50 to play, but Millsaps (3-1) closed the game with an 11-1 run. Millsaps' Shante Morton hit a 3-pointer to cut it to one point with 2:28 left before the Majors hit a layup and sank 6-of-7 free throws to seal the game.

Morgan Crawford led the Lady Hawks with 18 points, five rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists. Crawford was 3-for-4 on 3-pointers. Ousley added 14 points and a team-high six rebounds. LaTerial Williams finished with 12 points and five assists and Raven Prater pulled down five rebounds and added seven points.

Morton led Millsaps with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Velvet Johnson added 10 points and five rebounds.

The Lady Hawks return to action on Tuesday in their home opener. Huntingdon hosts Judson at Roland Arena at 5:30 p.m.
