Huntingdon women’s basketball falls at Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Maryville pulled away late in the first half and knocked off Huntingdon 70-47 on Saturday.

Huntingdon (12-8, 7-4 Great South Athletic Conference) trailed by four points midway through the first half. But a 19-8 Maryville run gave the Lady Scots a 33-18 lead at halftime. In the second half, Maryville (13-6, 9-1 GSAC) maintained a double-digit lead and pulled away late to close out the game.

The Lady Scots are the only one-loss team in the GSAC. Piedmont (10-2 GSAC) and LaGrange (10-2 GSAC) are tied for the second-best conference winning percentage.

Huntingdon, with five GSAC games remaining, is fourth. The Lady Hawks travel to Covenant on Wednesday and to Salem and Spelman next weekend before closing out conference play at home against LaGrange and Piedmont the following week.

On Saturday, Sekal Ousley and Chelsea Graham led Huntingdon in scoring with eight points apiece. Ousley also had six rebounds.

Kiera Payne led Maryville with 20 points and nine rebounds and Lauren Burnett added 15 points.

Maryville outrebounded Huntingdon 54-29, shot 21-of-62 from the field and 22-for-30 from the free-throw line. Huntingdon was 19-of-56 from the field and 5-for-7 from the free-throw line.
