Lady Hawks basketball cruises to 14th win of the season

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Huntingdon Lady Hawks scored 52 points in the first half and took an 83-61 win over Salem College on Saturday.

The Lady Hawks (14-8, 9-4 Great South Athletic Conference) built a quick lead and emptied the bench, with only one starter playing more than 18 minutes. The reserves accounted for 44 points in the game.

Huntingdon opened the game with a 15-0 run and began subbing freely midway through the half. The Lady Hawks led 52-27 at halftime.

Huntingdon shot 47.8 percent from the field in the first half and 42 percent for the game.

Huntingdon sophomore Raven Prater hit five 3-pointers and scored 17 points in 18 minutes of playing time. Chelsea Graham added 13 points in 13 minutes, Sekal Ousley had 10 points in 16 minutes and Morgan Crawford finished with eight points in 15 minutes.

Patricia Pickens and Tanjanik Munford each led Huntingdon in rebounds with eight. Jodi Thomas added seven rebounds and Whitney Toole grabbed six. Pickens and LaTerial Williams each had four assists and Kyra Holiday had three assists. Williams, Holiday and Crawford each had three steals.

Amber Miller scored 21 points to lead Salem (2-18, 0-13 GSAC).

The Lady Hawks close out a four-game road stretch at Spelman on Sunday. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.

Huntingdon closes out the regular season with a pair of home games next week. Huntingdon hosts LaGrange on Wednesday and Piedmont on Feb. 18.
