Huntingdon women’s basketball cruises to victory in home opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team took control early Tuesday night and took a 37-point win in its home opener. Huntingdon built a 21-point lead in the first half and knocked off Judson 95-58 at Roland Arena.

The 95 points are the most scored by the Huntingdon women since the dedication of Roland Arena in 2007.

"This was a good early-season win for us," Huntingdon head coach Buzz Phillips said. "Judson came out and played hard and it was a close game early. Fortunately, we were able to get a lead, play all of our players and work with several different combinations of players.

"With the schedule we have ahead of us, it's important for us to gain experience and be comfortable playing together, regardless of who is on the court. Tonight we were able to get an overall team effort and we just want to keep working to get better each day."

Judson led during the early stages of the game, but Huntingdon (2-2) quickly took control. A Tristiana Mays jumper gave the Lady Hawks a one-point lead with 15:35 to play in the first half. Huntingdon wouldn't trail again.

During the next five minutes, Huntingdon used an 11-0 run to take a 20-8 lead. Huntingdon extended its lead to as many as 21 points in the first half, led 48-29 at the half and continued to pull away in the second half.

Morgan Crawford led the Lady Hawks with 22 points, seven steals, six assists and a block. The senior was 8-for-8 from the field and 5-for-5 from 3-point range.

Tanjanik Munford turned in a double-double, recording 15 points and 11 rebounds. Devin Douglas finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and four steals and Patricia Pickens added 14 points. Jodie Thomas pulled down eight rebounds.

Huntingdon returns to action on Saturday at Blue Mountain.
