Huntingdon’s Pickens and Garmany earn USA South honors

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Two Huntingdon women's basketball players were recognized as USA South Athletes of the Week on Monday.

Junior Pat Pickens was named the Women's Basketball Player of the Week and freshman Mackenzie Garmany was named the Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week.

Pickens averaged 19.5 points, 10 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game in two wins last week. Pickens totaled 19 points, 14 rebounds and three steals in a win over Pensacola Christian and added 20 points, six rebounds and four steals in a 77-57 win over Oglethorpe.

Garmany, in her first two collegiate games, averaged 14.5 points in two wins and hit seven 3-pointers in the two games. Garmany was 5-for-8 from 3-point range against Oglethorpe and finished with 19 points. In her first collegiate game, Garmany recorded 10 points, four rebounds and three assists against Pensacola Christian.

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Patrick Dugger, LaGrange - The senior center from Fayetteville, Georgia averaged 25.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 1.0 steals per contest as the Panthers compiled a 1-1 record last week. In a 94-91 loss to Pensacola Christian, Dugger totaled 28 points, eight rebounds, four blocks and one steal. In a 69-65 win over Sewanee, Dugger notched a double-double of 22 points and ten rebounds to go along with three blocks, one assist and one steal. Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Pat Pickens, Huntingdon - The Anniston, Alabama junior forward averaged a double-double of 19.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for the Hawks. She also averaged 3.5 steals and 2.0 assists per contest last week. In a 67-58 win over Pensacola Christian, Pickens notched a double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds to go along with three steals and one assist. In a 77-57 victory over Oglethorpe, Pickens totaled 20 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists. Also Nominated: Shea Smith, Ferrum; Caroline Brashier, LaGrange; Lauren Burnett, Maryville; Symone Ball, Piedmont; Jackie Lyles, Methodist; Aleigha Williams, Covenant.

 

Rookies of the Week

Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Chase England, Piedmont - The Oakwood, Georgia freshman forward helped the Lions to an 83-74 win over Toccoa Falls in the team's lone contest last week. England scored 19 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out two assists in the victory. Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Mackenzie Garmany, Huntingdon - The Pelham, Alabama freshman guard helped the Hawks to a 2-0 record last week by averaging 14.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.  In a 67-58 win over Pensacola Christian, Garmany contributed ten points, four rebounds and three assists. In a 77-57 victory over Oglethorpe, Garmany totaled 19 points, one rebound and one assist. Also Nominated: Brianna Barrett, Piedmont; Maya Banks, Methodist; Aleigha Williams, Covenant.
