Lady Hawks win 15th straight at Roland Arena

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team opened its home schedule with an 82-58 win over Wesleyan on Saturday.

The win pushes the Lady Hawks' home winning streak to 15 games, a program record during the NCAA era. Huntingdon won its final home game of the 2011-12 season and was 13-0 at Roland Arena last season.

On Saturday, Wesleyan played Huntingdon (3-0) close in the first half. Huntingdon only led by three points with four minutes left in the first half, but the Lady Hawks pulled ahead to a 42-33 lead at the half.

In the second half, Huntingdon took control. A Tan Munford basket gave the Lady Hawks a 10-point lead, 44-34, a little more than two minutes into the second half and a Mackenzie Garmany 3-pointer made it a 21-point game, 62-41, with 9:58 to play.

The lead grew to as much as 32 points, 80-48, as Huntingdon substituted freely in the second half.

"Hats off to Wesleyan, this was by far the best Wesleyan team I've seen since I've been here. They played us tough and gave us trouble in the first half," Huntingdon head coach Buzz Phillips said. "We came out and handled the ball better and shot the ball better in the second half. I don't think we played as well as we should have, but we did some good things and we're glad to be 3-0."

Juniors Munford and Pat Pickens each had 14 points and 15 rebounds for the Lady Hawks. It was the third double-double in three games for Munford and the second double-double for Pickens.

Junior Eisha Person scored a team-high 17 points, including four 3-pointers in the first half, and added four assists. Garmany, a freshman, scored in double figures for a third straight game, finishing with 10 points. Senior Raven Prater added six assists.

"My main concern right now is that we have three or four players handling the majority of our scoring and rebounding. I want to see more players becoming involved," Phillips said. "You can't count on the same handful of people to carry you every game. We have to have some other players step up. It's still early, but we have to see who else wants to step forward. It's going to take a team effort for us achieve the goals we've set for this season."

Huntingdon returns to action at Birmingham-Southern on Dec. 16.
