Huntingdon women pick up fourth conference win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team built a double-digit lead in the first half but had to rally in the second half for a 75-67 win over William Peace on Sunday.

Tied 67-67 with two minutes to play, Huntingdon's Pat Pickens and Mackenzie Garmany combined for the final eight points. Pickens hit two field goals and a free throw and Garmany sank 3-of-4 free throws to seal the win.

Pickens and Garmany were two of five Lady Hawks to score in double figures. Freshman Mary Englebert hit four 3-pointers and finished with 15 points, Pickens recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds and Raven Prater also scored 14 points.

Garmany followed with 13 points and five assists and Tan Munford added 10 points and a game-high 15 rebounds for her sixth double-double this season. Arbanee Dean pulled down eight rebounds and tied the Lady Hawks' record for blocks in a game with five. Dean shares the record with Tiffany Jordan and Dusti Doss.

Huntingdon (12-5, 4-4 USA South) carried a 39-29 lead into the half, before Peace (1-12, 1-6 USA South) opened the second half with an 11-2 run. Huntingdon regained momentum in the final eight minutes but couldn't put the Pacers away until Pickens and Garmany sparked the final 8-0 run.

The Lady Hawks return to action at home on Wednesday against LaGrange (12-6, 6-3 USA South). Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
