Lady Hawks snap LaGrange’s 7-game winning streak

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Senior Raven Prater and junior Pat Pickens combined for 47 points as the Huntingdon women's basketball team knocked off LaGrange 82-72 on Thursday night.

With the win, Huntingdon (13-5) improved to 5-4 in the USA South Athletic Conference. The loss snapped a 7-game winning streak for LaGrange (12-7, 6-4 USA South).

"We played the most complete game tonight that we've played in a long time," Huntingdon head coach Buzz Phillips said. "We came out with a high intensity level and we never let up. LaGrange has a very good team, but our girls knew we needed this win and we stepped up and played well."

Prater hit five 3-pointers and led all scorers with 28 points. She finished two points short of her career high.

Pickens recorded her second straight double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Mackenzie Garmany added nine points and five assists and Jello Weatherspoon finished with five assists. Arbanee Dean pulled down 11 rebounds.

Both teams battled evenly until the final six minutes of the game. With Huntingdon leading 66-64 with 5:21 to play, Pickens scored seven straight points and Prater added two points before Kadaleus Gissendanner hit a 3 to make it a 78-67 game with 1:23 left. Garmany hit four free throws in the final 22 seconds to help close out the game.

Huntingdon returns to action on Saturday, hosting Covenant at 2 p.m.
