Lady Hawks can’t find an answer for Maryville

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team led for most of the first half on Saturday. But Maryville took control in the second half to win 75-67.

The Lady Hawks remained within striking distance and never trailed by more than 14 points in the second half. Huntingdon pulled within six points in the final two minutes, but could not close the gap.

With four USA South Athletic Conference games remaining, Huntingdon (15-6, 7-5 USA South) has a half-game lead on LaGrange (13-9, 7-6 USA South) for third in the South Division. The top three teams will qualify for the conference tournament.

Maryville (19-3, 12-1 USA South) leads the South Division and Piedmont (14-8, 8-5 USA South) is second. Huntingdon has one game remaining with each South Division team.

Pat Pickens led the Lady Hawks with 23 points on Saturday and Jello Weatherspoon added 10 points. Tan Munford pulled down 14 rebounds and Arbanee Dean had 11 rebounds.

Huntingdon returns to Roland Arena on Sunday for Senior Day. The Lady Hawks play Piedmont at 1 p.m.
