Lady Hawks pick up first conference win of the season

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Sophomore Mackenzie Garmany scored a career-high 26 points and senior Pat Pickens added 25 points to lead the Huntingdon women's basketball team past Methodist 84-62 on Sunday.

With the win, Huntingdon (4-4, 1-1 USA South) snapped a six-game conference losing streak dating to last season.

The Lady Hawks took control quickly against Methodist (0-8, 0-2 USA South), building a 10-point lead in the first four minutes of the game. Garmany and Pickens combined to score 17 of Huntingdon's first 21 points.

Huntingdon extended its lead to as many as 17 points in the first half and led by at least 12 points the entire second half.

In addition to her 26 points, Garmany also finished with a career-high six assists and a career-best six 3-pointers, hitting 6-of-8 against the Monarchs. The six 3s are tied for the third most by a Lady Hawk during the NCAA era and two short of the program record of eight set by Raven Prater last season.

Pickens had six assists, four rebounds and four steals to go along with her 25 points. Pickens leads the USA South Athletic Conference with 21.8 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Garmany is fifth in the USA South with 14 points per game and second in the conference with 24 3-pointers this season.

Senior Tan Munford added 10 points and six rebounds on Sunday and Juliette Harp finished with 10 rebounds, seven points and four blocked shots in 15 minutes.
