Lady Hawks down Fighting Squirrels for third straight win

STAUNTON, Va. – Senior Pat Pickens turned in her fifth double-double in 10 games as the Huntingdon women's basketball team knocked off Mary Baldwin College 73-53 on Saturday.

The Lady Hawks led 36-29 at the half and pulled away in the second half. Huntingdon used a 25-10 run to put the game away. It was the third straight win for Huntingdon (6-4, 2-1 USA South) and the fourth win in five games.

Pickens finished with 34 points, 16 rebounds and six steals and set Huntingdon's NCAA-era single-game record for free throws, hitting 16-of-19. This was the second time Pickens has gone over 30 points this season. She set the program's single-game scoring record earlier this season with 37 points against Rust.

Pickens leads the USA South with 21.9 points per game, is tied for the conference lead with 34 steals this season and is second in the conference with 10.7 rebounds per game.

Sophomore Mackenzie Garmany hit three 3-pointers and finished with 10 points and Jai'Lyn Lover added nine points and three steals. Tiara Howton pulled down 10 rebounds and Juliette Harp followed with nine rebounds.

Huntingdon plays at Meredith on Sunday at 1 p.m.
