Huntingdon women hold off Covenant

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team built a big lead early but had to hold on to beat Covenant 62-53 on Saturday.

The Lady Hawks (9-9, 4-6 USA South) never trailed in the game, but Covenant (2-18, 2-10 USA South) would not go quietly. Huntingdon built a 14-point lead in the first half and led 34-23 at halftime.

The Lady Hawks took their largest lead of the game, 49-26, a little more than five minutes into the second half. But the lead would not last.

Trailing by 23 points with 14:51 left in the game, the Scots rallied with a 20-0 run and pulled within three points, 49-46, with 8:47 to play.

The Lady Hawks were able to end Covenant's rally and closed the game with a 13-7 run.

Huntingdon senior Pat Pickens recorded her ninth double-double of the season and finished with 15 points and 18 rebounds. Senior Tan Munford also had a double-double of 12 points and 16 rebounds and sophomore Jenna Dorman added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Huntingdon returns to action on Wednesday at Wesleyan at 4 p.m.
