Lady Hawks open season with a win over Judson

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team opened its season with an 88-54 win over Judson College on Friday during the first day of the Lady Hawks Classic.

Huntingdon (1-0) got off to a slow start and only led by nine, 30-21 at halftime. Judson (0-1) kept the game close through much of the third quarter before the Lady Hawks began to pull away. Huntingdon led by 14 at the end of three quarters.  

Huntingdon head coach Buzz Phillips was impressed with how his team responded in the second half.

"I'm glad there are two halves in the ballgame," Phillips said. "We did not play well together and we weren't fundamentally sound in the first half. But we came out in the second half and scored a lot of points. I was proud of how we responded."

Sophomores Juliette Harp and Gabby George combined for 34 points. Harp recorded a double-double for the Lady Hawks with 16 points and 16 rebounds. She also had three blocks. George scored a team-high18 points and finished with five rebounds and six assists.

Mackenzie Garmany, Jenna Dorman and Deven Still each scored 10 points in the game. Senior point guard Savannah Ward recorded five rebounds and four assists. Freshman Peyton Hill finished with five rebounds.

Huntingdon closes out the Lady Hawks Classic with Agnes Scott on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Roland Arena.
