Harp earns USA South Athlete of the Week honors

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon sophomore Juliette Harp was named one of the USA South Athletes of the Week on Monday.

The 6-foot-2 forward was named Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her performances in a 74-64 win over Averett and a 53-48 loss to Ferrum. Harp recorded a double-double in both games, averaging 17 points and 12 rebounds.

In Saturday's win over Averett, Harp scored 19 points and 11 rebounds. Harp recorded five blocks, setting a career-high. Against Ferrum, Harp turned in her 11th double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds and turned in her second straight five-block game against Ferrum. She is just the fourth Huntingdon player to record five blocks in a game during the NCAA era.

With 42 blocks this season, Harp is tied with Dusti Doss for the second most blocks in a season by a Lady Hawk during the NCAA era. Doss also holds the Huntingdon season record with 45 blocks. With 63 blocks in 34 career games, Harp is second in career blocks. Doss holds the Lady Hawks' NCAA-era record with 149 career blocks.

The Lady Hawks return to action on Saturday against William Peace in Roland Arena at 1 p.m.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Parris Scales, Greensboro - The senior forward from Greensboro, North Carolina averaged 18.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game as the Pride posted a 3-0 record last week versus USA South competition. In an 81-78 win over LaGrange, Scales notched a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds to go along with four blocks and two steals. In an 81-79 victory at Covenant, Scales totaled 18 points, eight rebounds, two steals and one assist. Finally, in a 91-76 win at Maryville, Scales tallied 19 points, eight rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block. Also Nominated: Brandon Monk, Methodist; Jay Bowyer, Maryville; TJ Cox, Covenant; Rashawn Speas, Ferrum; Raheem Berry, Huntingdon; Braxton Ford, LaGrange; Bradley Robinson, Averett; Adrian Moore, N.C. Wesleyan; Chris Meeks, Piedmont.

Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Steven Jones, Ferrum - The Roanoke, Virginia freshman guard averaged 9.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game as the Panthers posted a 2-1 record last week versus USA South competition. In a 57-51 loss to Averett, Jones totaled five points, eight rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block. In a 100-76 victory over LaGrange, Jones tallied four points, three rebounds, four assists and one steal. Finally, in an 85-79 win over Huntingdon, Jones scored a career-high 18 points with six rebounds, one assist and one block. Also Nominated: Austin DeLucia, Averett; Joshua Brooks, Maryville; Brandon McLean, Huntingdon; Taylor Mills, Piedmont.

 

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Juliette Harp, Huntingdon - The Chattanooga, Tennessee sophomore forward averaged a double-double of 17.0 points and 12.0 rebounds to go along with 5.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game last week as the Hawks posted a 1-1 record versus USA South competition. In a 74-64 win at Averett, Harp notched a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds to go with five blocks and one steal. In a 53-48 loss at Ferrum, Harp tallied a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds while adding five blocks, three steals and one assist. Also Nominated: Alexis Wallace, Methodist; Madison Maples, Maryville; Aleigha Williams, Covenant; Marla Crawford, Greensboro; Kemani Crawford, Ferrum; Samm Chandler, Averett; Mary Kate Rushton, Piedmont.

Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Marilauren Farr, LaGrange - The Dawson, Georgia freshman forward averaged 10.7 points and 9.3 rebounds per game as the Panthers posted a 1-2 record versus USA South competition last week. In a 63-55 loss to Greensboro, Farr tallied a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds with one block. In a 62-57 loss at Ferrum, Farr totaled three points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal. Finally, in a 67-53 victory over Averett, Farr notched a double-double of 15 points and ten rebounds to go with one steal. Also Nominated: Jatasia Bailey, Piedmont; Maggie Self, Ferrum; Tiarrial Duncan, Huntingdon; Shannon Longworth, Averett; Jermaiyah Baker, N.C. Wesleyan.
