Huntingdon women knock off Hilbert in season opener

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team opened its regular season with a 61-48 win over Hilbert College on Friday.

The Lady Hawks (1-0) led the game for a little over 36 minutes and never trailed by more than one point. Huntingdon led by two after the first quarter, seven at halftime, nine after the third and won by 13.  

Senior Jello Weatherspoon led all scorers with 17 points and recorded four rebounds, three assists and six steals while going 8-for-12 from the free-throw line.

Junior Juliette Harp scored 13 points and had eight rebounds. Senior Jenna Dorman had seven points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds while recording five steals and four assists.

The Lady Hawks scored 19 points off turnovers, had 11 second chance points and had 20 points in the paint.

Senior Mackenzie Garmany scored six points while fellow senior Jai'Lyn Lover scored five points and had five rebounds. T.I. Duncan finished with six rebounds.

The Lady Hawks will play William Peace in the championship round of the Jackie Ammons Memorial Tournament on Saturday at 2 p.m. Live video will be provided and can be found on the women's basketball schedule page.
