Lady Hawks improve to 3-0 with win at Belhaven

JACKSON, Miss. – Senior Mackenzie Garmany hit a 3-pointer with 14 seconds to play and sophomore Damali Thomas sank two free throws in the final seconds to help the Huntingdon women's basketball team get by Belhaven 73-70 on Tuesday.

Trailing 70-68 with 14 seconds to play, Garmany gave Huntingdon (3-0) the lead with her fourth 3-pointer of the game. The Blazers (2-1) missed a 3-point attempt with nine seconds to play and were forced to foul. With two seconds on the clock, Thomas stepped to the free-throw line and sank her first two free throws of the season to seal the win.

The Lady Hawks led by as many as eight points in the first half before Belhaven rallied late in the second quarter and early in the third quarter to build a six-point lead. The game was tied 31-31 at the half. Neither team led by more than four points in the final 18 minutes of the game.

Four Lady Hawks finished in double figures. Senior Jenna Dorman turned in her second straight double-double, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Juliette Harp had a game-high 16 points to go with seven rebounds and three blocks.

Garmany finished with 14 points and three steals, Jello Weatherspoon added 10 points, Mia Hudson followed with eight points and T.I. Duncan had eight assists.

Huntingdon will play its first home game of the season on Nov. 29, hosting Pensacola Christian at 7 p.m.
