Lady Hawks defeat Piedmont on Senior Day

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Behind Juliette Harp's 26 points and 18 rebounds, the Huntingdon women's basketball team defeated Piedmont 66-62 on Saturday.

Piedmont, who is ranked second in the USA South Athletic Conference West Division, defeated the Lady Hawks 85-49 earlier this season. The Lady Hawks currently sit third in the USA South West Division.

Before the game, head coach Buzz Phillips and assistant coach Paige Huff recognized seniors Jenna Dorman, Mackenzie Garmany, Jai'Lyn Lover and Jello Weatherspoon.

Leading by 12 with 5:37 left in the game, the Lady Hawks (16-5, 7-3 USA South) survived a comeback attempt by the Lions (16-6, 9-2 USA South). Piedmont chipped away at the lead and hit a 3-pointer with 26 seconds left to pull within two.

A pair of Dorman and Maia Hill free-throws extended the lead to six, but the Lions answered back with a 3-pointer with five seconds remaining. Hill sunk one-of-two free throws in the final seconds to ice the win.

Both teams battled close throughout the first quarter as Piedmont took a 13-12 lead going into the second. The Lions pulled by 12 points midway through the second quarter, but Huntingdon used a 16-0 run to close out the half and take a 29-25 lead.

Huntingdon edged the Lions in the third quarter by four points and survived late in the game to seal the win.

Harp added two blocks to her double-double. It is the junior's fourth straight game with 20 or more points.

T.I. Duncan added 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals. Hill scored 10 points while Dorman finished with eight points and six rebounds.

The Lady Hawks host Salem on Sunday for a 3 p.m. matchup.
