Women’s basketball earns 19th win of the season at Wesleyan

MACON, Ga. – Huntingdon had four players score double-digit points as the Lady Hawks closed out their regular season with a 73-59 win over Wesleyan on Sunday.

Huntingdon closes the regular season with a 19-6 overall record and 10-4 USA South Athletic Conference record. The 19 wins ties the 2012-13 Huntingdon team for most wins in a season during the NCAA-era. The 2012-13 team finished with a 19-10 record.

With the win, Huntingdon advances to the USA South Tournament and will play Salem College in the first round on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Piedmont College.

Juliette Harp led Huntingdon with 17 points, 17 rebounds and four blocks.  Jenna Dorman added 16 points and seven rebounds and Jello Weatherspoon finished with 15 points, seven assists and five rebounds. T.I. Duncan had 10 points, eight rebounds, four steals and four blocks.

Huntingdon opened the game with a Duncan 3-pointer and jumped out to an 18-6 lead with just over two minutes left in the opening quarter. Wesleyan (3-20, 1-3 USA South) cut the lead to nine points and trailed the Lady Hawks 20-11 after the first quarter.

Wesleyan scored the first four points of the second quarter but Huntingdon maintained the lead and led 35-26 at halftime.

The Lady Hawks started the second-half with a 10-0 run to pull ahead 45-26 and took a 20-point lead into the fourth quarter. Wesleyan pulled within 13 points during the fourth, but Huntingdon held strong to take the win.
