Huntingdon’s season ends in USA South quarterfinals

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team lost to Piedmont 79-54 on Sunday in the quarterfinals of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Lady Hawks (20-7) fell behind 17-2 in the first five minutes of the game and were unable to recover. Huntingdon pulled within eight points in the second quarter and in the third quarter. But Piedmont (19-7) answered both times.

The Lions closed the first half with a 6-0 run and took a 41-27 lead into halftime. Leading 47-39 in the third quarter, the Lions used a 9-2 run to take a 56-41 lead into the fourth quarter. Piedmont continued to extend its lead in the fourth quarter.

Senior Jenna Dorman led Huntingdon with 17 points and nine rebounds. Junior Juliette Harp turned in her 15th double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Harp finished the season with 319 rebounds, breaking the Lady Hawks' NCAA-era single-season record. Tan Munford set the previous record with 267 rebounds during the 2013-14 season. Harp's 414 points this season are the third most by a Lady Hawk during the NCAA era behind Pat Pickens' 497 (2014-15) and 424 (2013-14).

Senior Jello Weatherspoon finished with nine points, sophomore T.I. Duncan had nine rebounds, seven points and three blocked shots, sophomore Hannah Parks had seven points and freshman Maia Hill had five assists.
