Lady Hawks stumble in opening round of USA South Tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The fourth-seeded Huntingdon women's basketball team matched fifth-seeded Covenant College for three quarters on Wednesday night but the Scots pulled off the upset with a 63-53 win in the first round of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament.

Tied 47-47 at the end of three quarters, Huntingdon was outscored 16-6 in the final 10 minutes of the game. A basket by Huntingdon senior Juliette Harp tied the game 51-51 with 4:25 to play, but the Scots closed the game with a 12-2 run.

Harp finished the game with 20 points and 10 rebounds to push her career total to 53 double-doubles. Her 24 double-doubles in 26 games is the most in Division III this season.

She ends her career as the Lady Hawks' NCAA-era leader in career rebounds (1,018), blocked shots (207) and field goal percentage (49.9) and is the program's fourth-leading scorer with 1,283 points.

Abiba Bernard added 11 points and four steals and T.I. Duncan finished with 10 points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Mia Hudson had seven rebounds.

Quick Facts: This was the second straight season Huntingdon advanced to the USA South Tournament. Huntingdon's 16 wins this season are tied for the fourth most by the program during the NCAA era.
