Lady Hawks open season with win over Florida College

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team finished strong to open the season with a 64-56 win over previously unbeaten Florida College on Friday.

Huntingdon (1-0) outscored Florida College 21-11 in the fourth quarter and handed the Falcons (4-1) their first loss of the season.  

Huntingdon jumped out to a 17-5 lead after one quarter before the Falcons rallied and pulled within three points, 32-29, at halftime and briefly took the lead in the third quarter. The Lady Hawks answered in the fourth quarter and put the game away.

Senior Alex Lowery led Huntingdon with 18 points and pulled down six rebounds. Senior T.I. Duncan recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Juniors Shaonica Thomas and Keturah Billen each added eight points and sophomore Indya Lawrence finished with seven rebounds and seven assists.

 

Records: Huntingdon (1-0); Florida College (4-1)

 

Notable: This is the fourth straight season Huntingdon has won its season opener and the sixth time in the past eight seasons the Lady Hawks have started 1-0.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon returns to action in Pensacola, Fla., on Saturday against Trinity. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m.
