BEREA, Ky. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team matched its NCAA-era record for wins in a season with a 73-66 win over Berea College on Saturday.

The win was the 20th of the season for the Lady Hawks (20-4, 13-3 USA South), and matched the win total set during the 2016-17 season. The win also extended the program's NCAA-era record overall winning streak (10 games) and road winning streak (12 games).

Huntingdon ends the regular season as the No. 3 team in the USA South's West Division. Berea (20-5, 14-2 USA South), which entered the game as the West Division leader, and Piedmont (20-5, 14-2 USA South) tied for first in the West Division.

Piedmont won the tiebreaker and will be the West Division's No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. Berea will be the No. 2 seed in the West. As the third seed, Huntingdon will host Covenant in the first round of the conference tournament on Wednesday.

In Saturday's game, Huntingdon led for the final 24:53 of the game. The Lady Hawks took the lead for good with 4:53 left in the second quarter and built as much as a 15-point lead in the third quarter. But the game was far from decided.

The Mountaineers cut Huntingdon's lead to five points, 66-61, with 45 seconds to play. The Lady Hawks hit 7-of-10 free throws in the final 44 seconds to hold off Berea's rally. Senior Alex Lowery made 5-of-6 free throws in the final 17 seconds to seal the game.

T.I. Duncan finished with a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds to go with five steals, three assists and a block. Payton Kiser added 10 points and Ry Whetstone had nine points and eight rebounds. Lowery finished with eight points and Hannah Parks had six rebounds.

Notable: The Lady Hawks' 13-3 conference record marks the most conference wins in a season for Huntingdon since joining the USA South.

 

Coming Up: Huntingdon opens play in the USA South Tournament on Wednesday. The Lady Hawks will host Covenant in the first round.
