Huntingdon’s Hamil tied for fourth after 1st round of Piedmont Invitational

CLARKESVILLE, Ga. – Huntingdon senior Ali Hamil shot a 3-over-par 75 on Monday and is tied for fourth after the first round of the Piedmont Fall Invitational at the Orchard Golf & Country Club.

Hamil is two strokes off the lead entering the final round. Methodist's Loretta Giovannettone and Andie Savel and Piedmont's Katarina Hodge are tied for first at 1-over 73. Gabriella Gunawan (Methodist B-Team) is tied with Hamil at 75.

Behind Hamil, freshman Sydney Robbins shot an 88 for Huntingdon. Junior Saem Hur shot 91, freshman Jessie Culey shot 103 and freshman Shay Roberson shot 112.

As a team, the Lady Hawks shot 357 in the first round and are in seventh place in the 10-team field. Methodist University leads the field at 302, the Methodist B-Team is second at 310 and Birmingham-Southern is third at 325.

Host Piedmont is fourth at 328, Emmanuel College is fifth at 351 and Oglethorpe is sixth at 352. Behind Huntingdon, Young Harris is eighth at 382, Truett-McConnell is ninth at 403 and Millsaps is 10th at 435.

Greensboro had one golfer withdraw from the tournament, dropping the the Pride below the minimum four golfers needed to compete as a team. Maryville, Covenant and Reinhardt are also competing as individuals but do not have enough golfers to compete in the team standings.

The final round of the tournament is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
